yesterday was a typical (well, perhaps not so typical) example of this! freya, finn and i have all been sick but i thought we'd do a quick dash to the supermarket to stock up on tissues and the like. so, all rugged up - freya in finn's old clothes, three sizes too big so she looked the size of a four year old, finn with a cough like a barking seal, me with my worst tracksuit pants and stained jumper on, and the three of us with noses streaming... got the picture? anyway, freya was sitting in the supermarket trolley seat, finn was sitting in the actual trolley. all of sudden, freya starts screaming, i mean really, really crying.... i look down from my coldy haze and see that she has somehow gotten her leg stuck between the back of the trolley seat and the bottom of the seat. it is well and truly wedged! a safeway woman came rushing over and asked what the problem was. i frantically was trying to unwedge freya's leg well trying to explain, between freya's fits of crying, that there was a problem with the trolley and freya's leg! the woman went off in search of 'a man' to help. meanwhile, a large crowd of people had formed around us - some trying to help, others just watching and enjoying the show. i heard one comment that perhaps we'd make it onto the front cover of the paper - 'god no' i thought, 'not looking like this'. people were searching for bolt cutters, welding instruments(?!?!) etc. eventually, much to my relief, the large lady from the deli was able to manoeuvre freya's leg out and we were free! literally! (i don't mean to sound as though all i was thinking about was how dreadful we were looking, i was actually more concerned about freya's leg!).
we ran into a few people we knew on our final round and and had to stop and chat to every person who had witnessed the frightful event to let them know 'yes, we did free the baby, the woman in the deli helped'....
here is a video of happier times.... xx
