lazy sunny afternoons

last weekend was super hot so alot of time was spent at the beach or lazing around at home...

we did head out to the kite festival in rosy rosebud. finn and freya managed to dance up a storm in the 40 degree heat...

i have done a bit of sewing lately - skirts and 'red riding hood' capes - hopefully i can get enough together to try and sell these at 'christmas at the studio' later in the year (or maybe take the plunge and open an 'etsy' shop???)...

heaps of bands to see this month - off to neil young tomorrow - super excited! xx

first day of autumn

well, you i've somehow managed to miss my blog through the whole of summer and here we are now, at the beginning of autumn! alot has gone down during the last few months but i am not going to re-cap too much - christmas was super good, finn turned four, and  freya started taking (alot!)

i might re-cap from a week or so ago... last sunday evening, i was watching a little tv with finn when pat raced inside and told of to "check this out". we ran outside and much to our amazement there were three peacocks wondering through our garden - just cruising along, checking things out. i had to shoo them off my vegie garden as they managed to eat most of my red tomatoes and lettuce! they ended up wandering off down the street towards the beach - finn was sure they were going for a surf...

i took the kids to "the mighty buzzniks" at the spiegeltent last week - finn definitely takes after his mum - he really wanted to be up the front rocking out with the other moshpit kids - he couldn't quite make it though the pack so danced on the seats at the back...

yesterday was a little more traumatic... we went to the farm where we buy our vegies. finn and freya always give the rabbit a pat. it is no ordinary rabbit, i am pretty sure it is just a little smaller than freya! anyway, this cute (huge) bunny turned into super scary vampire bunny. we were chatting away to it as usual, then it leapt up, stood on its to back legs and gripped on to finn's finger with it's big bunny teeth, almost swinging of it really.... he screamed and blood poured out everywhere (gross, i know). we then had to drive to the doctor... finn entered the surgery, crying and whimpering  clinging on to my neck. the other waiting patients looked at both finn and i with sympathy as we headed in to the doctor's office. the doctor checked finn's bloody finger wrapped it up with an enormous bandaid (much larger than necessary  but provided for good effect) and gave him a lolly pop. finn was alot more cheery and as he exited the office  he proudly held up his triple wrapped finger to the patrons in the waiting room and loudly exclaimed, in an almost texan drawl "i got bit by a rabbit!" nice one finn... xx

neglected again

well, yet again i have been neglecting my trusty blog! i have really been thinking about the direction this is heading and i'm not really sure where to go! we'll just have to wait and see....

something i have been inspired about is the rye community playground five day build and it is super! it was such an exciting thing to be a part of. i thought i'd only do a couple of shifts but really, being a part of it became an addiction - i ended up returning each day to help out. it was truly uplifting to be part of such a community oriented project. obviously, alot of people were involved as they had children or grandchildren who would be utilising the playground(including myself). however, there were plenty of people who were helping just because they wanted to, with no personal benefit. it made me realise how important and gorgeous it is to be a part of a close, connected community!

in other, more frivolousness news, i love this super cute, kitschy cushion found at www.larkmade.com.au xx

rockin' out on a rainy day

prior to having children, i would relish a rainy day at home - knowing i could watch full seasons of gossip girl or mad men, or read a whole novel, curled up on the couch with no interruptions! those days have well and truly gone. i mourned the loss this morning - freya woke up pretty early - in relatively fine spirits apart from the endless flow of green snot running from her nose (apologies to the squeamish...). finn got up a little later and the whining - a real wail - began - the complaint being that i was not in my pyjamas, given i had already showered and dressed. other complaints occurred such as my refusal to allow finn to have a chocolate crackle (a rare sweet treat we happen to have in our fridge at present) for breakfast... i knew it was going to be one of those 'oh so slow' days...

i ventured out to the local coffee shop, ordered the usual and sat with the kids. usually, they are totally fine, especially if they have some treat to keep them occupied. no such luck today - screeching, whining and general carrying on - even another customer pointed out that i was going to have a "great" (said through gritted teeth) day.

i have to say, this behaviour only lasted the morning (however, it felt like i had already lived a full day by the 11am mark!). anyway, after the initial dread of the day ahead, i embraced the rainy day and was really quite productive- alot more than i would have been in the "olden days"... and i actually enjoyed it

a rainy day cubby house was constructed...

mr potato head and his gang were born...

a super crafternoon was undertaken...

and finally some rockin' out to soundgarden and wolfmother

so, the lesson learnt is that i really have to look on the bright side of a rainy day and enjoy it - i can't to anything else about it!  now it is definitely time for that well earned alcoholic beverage.. xx

funny times

finn said something quite funny today... we were chatting about birthdays and birthday parties. i asked him he'd like a normal party or a dress up party. he said he'd like a dress-up party.... "ok", i said, "what would you like to dress up as?",
"a girl" finn replied... let's see how things pan out..

it was a gorgeous day, one of those days i love living where i live! xx

home sweet home

i really love that part of a holiday where you arrive at your destination, knowing that you have a whole adventure ahead of you. i also love that feeling where you know you have been away long enough that you are happy to be returning home. we are finally back and excited to be here. we had a fantastic time in bali but i have to say, i am loving my house and where i live (not that i didn't before, but i feel completely rejuvenated, even if we do not get the gorgeous tropical weather).

we've been to the park - as promised to finn numerous times while we were away...

we spent a beautiful spring day in the garden yesterday - preparing the beds for a super summer vegie harvest. it is quite enjoyable making good foundation dirt - mixing in different ingredients to make magic - a little like making a potion (something i completely loved doing when i was a kid... aaaahhh, those were the days)... xx
